Atwima Mponua MP Honors Outstanding Teachers And BECE Top Performers With Scholarships

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Seth Osei-Akoto has received high praise following the successful launch of his maiden teachers, Non-Teaching staff, and best BECE graduates Awards.

The colourful ceremony, held in Nyinahin, was hailed as a game-changer in local educational development and was further enhanced by the announcement of two major welfare interventions: a scholarship scheme for teachers and a special healthcare support plan for educators.

The event marked the first time a member of parliament in the district has instituted such a comprehensive recognition platform, and stakeholders from all sectors lauded the effort as both innovative and transformative.

The event brought together traditional leaders, education officials, parents, students, and media representatives to recognize the dedication and achievements of teachers and top-performing students.

 

Celebrating Educational Excellence

The awards recognized distinguished service across the education sector. Honourees included: Outstanding teachers at the KG, primary, junior high, and senior high levels, Dedicated non-teaching staff, Top-performing BECE graduates across the district.

Recipients were presented with certificates, electronic appliances, and educational materials — all aimed at motivating performance and encouraging retention in the teaching service, especially in deprived communities.

 

Thirteen exceptional educators received forty-three-inch flat-screen TVs, gas burners, and certificates of recognition.

 

 

 

Twenty-three top-performing BECE candidates received trunks, chop boxes, and student mattresses.

 

 

 

 

 

The award winners expressed gratitude, with one teacher noting, “This acknowledgment assures us that our hard work does not go unnoticed.”

 

A Call to Action

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Seth Osei-Akoto commended teachers, describing them as “true architects of the nation’s future.”

 

 

He emphasized the importance of motivation in education, highlighting its transformative power.

The MP expressed concern over recent Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and WASSCE results, urging education stakeholders to collaborate to improve student performance.

 

 

Empowering Education

Hon. Osei-Akoto announced the launch of the MP Institute Scholarship Scheme, designed to support teachers serving in deprived and hard-to-reach communities.

The scheme will offer:

  • Tuition sponsorship for further studies and professional development.
  • Access to remote learning resources and distance education programs.

The MP emphasized that no teacher should be limited by their location or income when it comes to upgrading their knowledge and skills.

Healthcare Support for Educators

In another groundbreaking move, the MP introduced a Special Health Care Support Scheme for teachers. The initiative will cover:

  • Annual health screenings for all teachers in the district.
  • Subsidized treatments and medications for chronic and occupational illnesses.
  • Emergency medical response for educators.

“Our teachers are nation builders. We can not allow them to suffer in silence due to poor health or lack of access to care,” Hon. Osei-Akoto said. “This is just the beginning.”

 

Akwamuhene Applauds MP’s Leadership.

The event was chaired by Nyinahin Akwamuhene, Nana Oti Boduah, who represented the Chief of Nyinahin, Nana Amanpene Boateng Twum II.He praised the MP for what he described as “one of the most novel and impactful initiatives ever witnessed in Atwima Mponua.”

“Hon. Osei-Akoto has shown true leadership by putting our teachers and children at the centre of development,” Nana said. “This is not politics — this is purpose. I urge all stakeholders, especially the Ministry of Education, to take note and offer support.”

The traditional leader called on other political figures and government agencies to emulate the MP’s example and invest directly in the people who drive education at the grassroots level.

 

District Education Director Commends the MP.

The Atwima Mponua District Director of Education, Madam Ama Adwubi Asafu-Adjaye, also commended Hon. Osei-Akoto for what she termed “an exceptional display of leadership and empathy.” She emphasized that motivation remains a key factor in improving teacher performance and student achievement.

“What we’ve witnessed today is historic. It goes beyond symbolic appreciation — it is about lifting the spirits of those who give so much but are often forgotten,” she remarked. “The scholarship and healthcare schemes will directly impact retention and morale, particularly in the remote areas.”

She expressed the Directorate’s readiness to collaborate with the MP to monitor and sustain the scholarship and healthcare initiatives.

The awards and accompanying interventions were met with widespread approval:
