Ashanti NPP MPs Condemn Asante Akim South MP’s Remarks On “Slave Descendants”

The Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned recent comments attributed to Kwaku Asante Boateng, Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, describing them as divisive and contrary to the principles of the Party.

Boateng is reported to have suggested that the Ashantis historically “used slaves for war” and that the descendants of such people are not entitled to leadership or positions of authority within the NPP.

In a statement dated November 2, 2025, and signed by the Secretary of the Caucus, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Ashanti NPP Parliamentary Caucus described the remarks as deeply offensive and inconsistent with the ideals of unity, equality, and inclusivity that define the New Patriotic Party.

“The Ashanti Regional Caucus completely disassociates itself from this narrative and condemns it in no uncertain terms,” the statement said. “The NPP was founded on the timeless principles of freedom, equality of opportunity, and inclusivity. Ours is a Party that rewards merit, loyalty, and service — not lineage, tribe, or religious identity.”

The Caucus reaffirmed that every member of the Party, regardless of background or origin, has an equal right to aspire to any position within the NPP or national leadership.

“As the bedrock of the NPP, the Ashanti Region rejects any attempt to use history, tribe, or identity to divide our ranks or to question the belonging of any loyal member,” the statement continued. “Such rhetoric is divisive and undermines the unity and cohesion that have been the foundation of our Party’s success.”

The group also urged all members, particularly those in leadership positions, to exercise restraint and decorum in their public statements, stressing the need to uphold the Party’s values of respect and discipline.

“The Ashanti Regional NPP Parliamentary Caucus stands firmly for a united Party and a united Ghana,” the statement concluded.

This follows earlier clarification from the national leadership of the NPP, which also distanced the Party from similar comments attributed to Hon. Asante Boateng, reiterating the Party’s unwavering commitment to national unity, equality, and the inclusion of all Ghanaians in its vision for development.
