Member of Parliament for Pusiga, Laadi Ayii Ayamba, has described the military recruitment tragedy at El-Wak Sports Stadium, which claimed the lives of six young women, as an act ordained by Allah.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Ayamba said, “It is very painful to have our children go for recruitment only for us to lose them, but I want us all to take solace in the almighty Allah. There’s nothing that happens that doesn’t happen at the right time. This is what the almighty Allah has ordained for them.”
The stampede occurred as thousands of young Ghanaians converged on the stadium seeking enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces. The massive crowd and intense jostling at the entry points reportedly sparked chaos, resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities.Ghana travel guide
The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that six people lost their lives in the incident, all female applicants. Several others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital, with some in critical condition.
In response to the tragedy, the GAF announced the suspension of the recruitment exercise until further notice while investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the incident.
The event has renewed public discussions about the need for improved crowd management and safety measures during large-scale recruitment exercises, with calls for reforms to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
