Ghana Armed Forces To Send SMS Notices In Batches Of 600 With Their Reporting Dates

The Ghana Armed Forces will resume its suspended recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

According to the military, qualified applicants will receive SMS messages with their reporting dates and designated screening centres.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Department of Public Relations at General Headquarters said applicants will be processed in controlled batches of 600 persons.

This measure is intended to avoid a repeat of the November 12 incident at El-Wak Stadium that led to the deaths of six applicants and left 28 others injured.

“All qualified applicants in batches of 600 persons, will each receive an SMS specifying their reporting dates, batches and designated centres,” the statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, Acting Director General, Public Relations, said.

The armed forces said applicants who do not receive text messages by Thursday may call the helpline on 0256405104 or contact 0256405154 on WhatsApp for assistance. They may also visit the recruitment portal for updates.

Screening will take place at eight sub-centres across five locations.

The centres are El-Wak Stadium, Nicholson Park at Burma Camp, Air Force Base at Burma Camp, the Training and Doctrine Command in Teshie and the Eastern Naval Command in Tema.

Experience Honest comfort
To reduce congestion, the GAF advised relatives and friends not to accompany applicants to the centres. According to the statement, non-applicants will not be allowed entry.

The 2025 and 2026 recruitment exercise was suspended after the deadly stampede on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.

The tragedy occurred around 6:20 a.m. when a large crowd of applicants pushed through security barriers and rushed towards the gates before the scheduled screening.

All six deceased were female applicants. Five victims remain in the Intensive Care Unit at the 37 Military Hospital, while twelve others are in critical condition.

A Board of Inquiry set up to investigate the cause of the incident is still working. The military said the Greater Accra recruitment team has been replaced to allow for fair and clear investigations.

Commodore F A Nyarko, Colonel F Kusi-Darko and Colonel G B Eduah have taken over as Director General Human Resource, Director Manpower and Director Information Technology.

The Ghana Armed Forces expressed regret over the incident and extended sympathies to the bereaved families and the injured.

The military said all injured applicants will continue to receive free medical care at the 37 Military Hospital until they recover.

A special recruitment package will be offered to all injured persons after they have fully recovered and to the families of the deceased.

The military added that anyone found responsible for the incident will face sanctions.

The armed forces urged the public to support the process.
