Residents of Dadwene in the Ashanti Region are calling for an unqualified apology from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces over the wrongful arrest of over 240 men from their community.
The men were among 300 persons arrested in a joint operation on November 12, 2025, targeting individuals involved in attacks on anti-illegal mining teams, police officers, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials.
However, community leaders claim their members were innocent and had no involvement in the attacks, describing the arrests as “ill-informed”.
The Tafo District Court and Atasamanso Circuit Court granted bail to 240 men on November 27, 2025, after they spent two weeks in remand.
Kwabena Fosu, a community leader, criticized the security agencies for failing to conduct due diligence before the mass arrest.
“These are innocent men, who had done nothing but were arrested and disgraced,” he said.
“They were taken away from their families, with most of them having their businesses disrupted, causing a massive blow to the families. We believe the police must take responsibility for their actions”.
The community intends to pursue the matter further, seeking accountability for the security agencies’ actions.
