A former Local Government Minister in the Kuffour administration has questioned the political genuineness of the conveners of the ongoing demand on the government to #FixTheCountry.

Kwadwo Adjei-Darko wondered where they were during the previous administration when all economic indicators, according to him, were low but seem to have now found their lost voices.

He asked, “where were the conveners of the #FixedTheCountry campaign when interest rates skyrocketed to over 32% before the NPP administration assumed office in 2017”.

The #FixTheCountry campaign which started on social media, mostly by youths, seeks to call on the government to address challenges citizens are grappling with within the country. They have grown in numbers, including high-ranking members of the previous NDC government.

They highlight rising youth unemployment, poor road network, worsening security situations, corruption, high rate of accommodation, ineffective health, education, power, and water systems, among others, making life difficult for the average Ghanaian.

Speaking to Mark Abisah on “Suncity Morning Drive” on Suncity Radio in Sunyani, Kwadwo Adjei-Darko said most of these shortfalls could be addressed if Ghanaians would collectively fix their attitudes.

He challenged citizens to wean themselves of anti-disciplinary acts that have engulfed society, causing damages.

Adjei-Darko, who is also a former Member of Parliament for the Sunyani West Constituency, mentioned that the perpetrators of the acts of indiscipline in Ghana today are mainly the very youth who are demanding the fixing of the economy and country.

He, however, reminded the campaigners of the President’s call on the people of Ghana to be citizens and not spectators, urging them to join hands in correcting the wrongs to help the process of fixing the country.

He also admonished both NPP and NDC members to stop doing propaganda with every national issue and rather be dedicated to playing their part to make Ghana a better place for all.

The former legislator, Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, insisted the country was on course to achieving stability and job creation until the Covid-19 pandemic took the world by storm in 2020.

He, however, believes with the support of all Ghanaians, the Akufo-Addo led government has what it takes to improve the living conditions in the country.
