Sompahemaa Foundation today, 15 December, 2021, organized Health Screening for 1,900 inmates at the Kumasi Central Prisons.
The foundation which is a Non – Government and Non – denominational organization seeks to create awareness of health and wellbeing in deprived communities, undertake health outreach programmes, and seek the welfare of the underprivileged in the society.
Speaking to the President and Founder, Mrs. Irene Kyei-Mensah Bonsu also called Sompahemaa, she disclosed that the main objective of the foundation is to reach out to the underprivileged, the marginalized, the deprived, and the vulnerable with health, welfare and empowerment programmes.
The inmates were screened of Diabetes, Hepatitis B, Prostate Cancer and other medical conditions.
Mrs. Kyei-Mensah Bonsu, also added inmates with severe conditions were referred to appropriate health facilities for treatment and those with minor conditions were treated and vaccinated against any future diseases.
The foundation also donated items worth millions of cedis in addition.
Sompahemaa finally pledge that her foundation will continue to support the underprivileged in the society and the vulnerable through health outreaches, empowerment and development initiatives.
The Head of the Prison Infirmary and Second in Command (2IC) of the Prison, Alhaji Osman Tassan Baidoo, accepted the items and also applauded the Sompahemaa Foundation for their benevolent gesture for the inmates.
He asserted that the inmates are exposed to various diseases because of the overfull in the facility, hence this exercise is crucial in combating such diseases.
