Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew has revealed he wasn’t well for two days before Ghana’s first match at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to the Black Stars captain he played against Morocco on Monday because his teammates needed him.

“I have not been feeling well for the past two days, I wanted to play, my colleagues wanted me on the pitch and I did everything because I have been waiting for this for three years now, we lost and I was unlucky to add a cut on my eye to it,” Ayew disclosed.

Ayew was included in a Ghana lineup team that failed to impress at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjoa as Morocco made a winning start to their campaign.

Former Southampton attacker Sofiane Boufal pounced on a loose ball to score the only goal in the 83rd minute to condemn Ghana to a 1-0 defeat.

The loss means Ghana must improve in their remaining two games and secure wins to avoid a shock group stage exit from the tournament.

On Friday, Ghana will take on Gabon, who despite missing their captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang due to Covid-10, beat debutants Comoros 1-0 later on Monday.

The Black Stars’ last game in Group C is on Tuesday against Comoros, and Ayew is sure of victory in both games.

“I think we can get through and we will get through cos it is our duty and we will make sure we qualify to the next stage.

“We lost the first game in 2010, 2015 but we pulled through. We were not expecting this start but we will make it,” he added.
