The lives of Students and teachers of Akyem Adjobue R/C Junior High School at Akyem Adjobue, a farming community in the Akyemansa district of the Eastern region, are under serious threat as academic work is conducted in an dilapidated wooden building with visible cracks and parts of the roof of the structure ripped off.
The bad state of the building negatively affect teaching and learning as pupils have to make do with the old dilapidated structure without enough furniture.
Some of the pupils who do not have access to desks are compelled to use benches borrowed from the community, while others carry chairs from their various homes to school daily.
Speaking to Ahenkan FM, MyGhanaMedia.com community watch Reporter, the people of Akyem Adjobue called on the government to come and demolish the wooden classroom structure for R/C JHS students.
According to them, the structure was built by the community for some years ago and it is weak that the structure can collapse on their children any time.
Some also confirmed that, they will never ever allow their children to attend such school.
The Akyem Adjobue Gyaasehene, Nana Kyei Mensah , told the My Ghana Media that for more than two years, the students had been studying in the dilapidated wooden structure, but the situation had worsened as a result of rainstorms that hit the area and totally ripped off the roof of the JHS block.
Nana Kyei Mensah added that, the town do not deserve the that kind of school block.
According to the Assemblyman for Adjobue Electoral area, Hon. Kwaku Owusu Asumani , he had reported the bad condition of the school structure to the Akyemansa District Assembly but the situation still persisted. He expressed worry about how the school had been neglected by the government and other service providers over the years.
He said the institution needed classrooms, and threatened that, “If the problem persists, the school authorities may be compelled to merge the classes or run a shift system.”
