Chiefs and Elders of Offinso Traditional Council have today vented their anger on Health Minister, Hon. Kwaku Agyeman Manu for what they describe as, his diabolic attempt to relocate a hospital meant for Offinso South, to Offinso South.
At a press conference attended by Chief, Elders and residents of Offinso South constituency, the Krontihene of Offinso Traditional Area who doubles as the Anoo Chief of Offinso, Baffour Osei Kuffour said Offinso South which is a District, has a government hospital, one AME Zion Church Hospital and four health centers. But Offinso South which is a Municipality has a Catholic Hospital(St. Patrick’s Hospital) and two health centers.
On Tuesday 22nd March, 2022, the Chairman of Health Committee of Parliament, Hon. Ayew Afriyie whilst presenting the committee’s report on the floor of parliament disclosed that there was going to be the construction and equipping of 40-Bed District Hospitals, which are to be located at Ayensuano, in the Eastern Region, Effiduase and Offinso both in the Ashanti Region at the cost of €38,000,000.00.
However, during consideration of the report, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, the Minister of Health announced that there were fundamental errors in the transaction that needed correction and relocation. He noted that “the Offinso one should be Offinso North, we already have a CHAG hospital at Offinso.
This, the minister said, invited a strong opposition from the MP of Offinso South, Hon. Isaac Yaw Opoku who threatened that he would do all he could to stop the last minute relocation of the hospital originally meant for his constituency.
Two days after this, the Chiefs, Elders and residents Offinso have asked President, Akufo-Addo to advise the Health Minister to desist from his attempt to shortchange them in favour of Offinso North because the MP for the place, Collins Ntim is his colleague minister.
