Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC will commence the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season with the Super-Clash against bitterest rivals Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday afternoon, 25th September, 2022.
The league is currently in the third round but the champions missed out in the opening fixtures due to their African campaign which was halted last week following their painful exit.
The Porcupine Warriors left their supporters in a state of despair and catastrophe after bowing out of the CAF Champions League and will look to redeem themselves with nothing but a win this time around.
Also, Hearts of Oak have only a point in their opening two matches which doesn’t look impressive at all and are also hoping to stun their rivals to make it up to their fans.
Coach Seydou Zerbo and his men suffered a very painful elimination to Burkinabe side RC Kadiogo last week via penalty shootouts in Kumasi- a tie they had nipped on youngster Isaac Oppong’s lone goal to finish victors of the first leg in Cotonou.
However, the Rainbow Club have also had a jittery start to the new season having picked just a point from the two matches honoured. They lost narrowly to Aduana Stars on the opening day before pouncing on Konadu Yiadom’s late header to earn a point against regional rivals Great Olympics.
The two clubs engaged each other on three occasions last season, the first leg in the league finished goalless. Hearts of Oak won 2-1 to win the President Cup before subsequently losing the return fixture by 1-0 in Kumasi.
