Akufo-Addo Appoints Ignatius Baffour Awuah As Minister For Pensions

The Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, has been appointed as the Minister in charge of Pensions by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo.

His appointment which takes effect from January 30, 2023, is also in accordance with the section 211 of the National Pensions Act 2008 (ACT 766).

The new Minister in charge of Pensions is expected to steer the affairs of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) and the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

Baffour Awuah’s appointment was made known by himself when he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday, February 1.

Meanwhile, his appointment comes after the Minority warned that any new ministerial appointment will not be tolerated as the country embarks on a domestic debt restructuring to revive the ailing economy.

Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah assumed duty as the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations on 13th February 2017.

He is the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Sunyani West Constituency, having been elected in 2008, 2012 and 2016.

Since becoming an MP, Hon. Baffour Awuah has served as the Deputy Ranking Member for the Finance Committee (2009 – 2013) and as the 2nd Deputy Minority Whip of Parliament (2013 – 2017).

He has also served on the following Parliamentary Committees: Committee on Selection, Environment Science and Technology Committee and the Local Government Committee. In 2017, he was appointed as a Commissioner of the National Development Planning Commission of Ghana.
