The former Director of Communications of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has backed calls for the party to go to an early congress to elect presidential and parliamentary candidates for the 2024 general elections.
According to Mr Yaw Buaben Asamoa who was also the Member of Parliament for Adentan Constituency , this will afford the party the opportunity to properly market the elected flagbearer.
Mr Buaben opposed to the party’s decision to delay the elections to early next year.
He added, “We strongly want the leadership to consider our plea in the interest of the party and Ghanaians as a whole. That is all we are asking for.”
He believe an early congress shall give enough time for the next Presidential candidate of the Party to work together with the sitting President on some policies especially on the IMF deal to secure an agreement which will help the nation and that will make the breaking the eight (8) agenda easily for the NPP.
He added that an early congress will help the next presidential candidate to select his running mate, set up his campaign team, reenergize the base of the Party and mobilize resources for the 2024 election campaign.
He said if the party executives are not ready to hold an early congress then they should allow the presidential aspirants to do their campaign
He has attributed the delay in scheduling a date for the party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries to some machinations by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
He added that nobody is competing with president Nana Addo’s shine as some people are claiming, therefore he should allow the party to hold its congress.
Hon. Buaben Asamoa revealed to the morning show host of Okay FM, Kwame Nkrumah Tikese in an interview monitored by MyGhanaMedia.com, that the New Patriotic party’s Danquah-Dombo-Busia Tradition is a“Bogus” Tradition .
