Ghana remained unbeaten in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers following a 1-1 away draw with the Palancras Negras of Angola at the Estadio de Novembro.

The Black Stars managed to maintain their top spot of Group E after holding Angola to a one-all draw in the match-day four of the qualification round for the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for next year in Ivory Coast.

Chris Hughton began without Thomas Partey on the pitch due to a knock. That called for double pivot of Salis Abdul Samed and Edmund Addo in midfield.

The game started with so much speed and pressure from the homesters in a quest to seeking an early goal. Their speedsters on the flanks really kept the Ghanaian backline on their toes at the start.

Huge shout for a penalty on the 5th minute after Helder Costa was brought down in the box by Gideon Mensah but the referee waved play on.

Ghana with their first attempt on goal on the 11th minute, Jordan Ayew took off his marker to send a teasing cross but was headed out to a wasted corner kick by Eddie Alfonso.

Terrific individual run subsequently from Kudus Mohammed saw him raced above a pool of defenders to set up Antoine Semenyo in the box but was dispossessed by the host backline.

Angola came so close to breaking the deadlock but Lawrence Ati Zigi rose up to the task to tip off a dangerous curling effort from Gelson to a wasted corner kick. That was close.

Jordan Ayew once again broke on a counter, cuts back to Kudus Mohammed who laid off finally to Edmund Addo but mis-kicked completely to a restart. It finished goalless at half time.

Back from recess, Helder Costa with a huge opportunity to snatch the lead he struck completely wide beyond target.

Momentarily, Angola were given a ridiculous penalty after Daniel Amartey got penalized for bringing down Gelson in the box.

Lucas Joao stepped up on the 51st minute and scored beautifully to put the Palancas Negras in front.

The Black Stars with an opportunity to reduce the deficit on the 59th minute after Joseph Paintsil went pass his marker to hit a strong one but was way off target.

Persistent pressure from the visitors finally earned them the leveller on the 72nd minute through substitute Osman Bukari who connected Josephqa Paintsil’s cross with his first touch.

It finished 1-1 after full time in Luanda.
