A member of parliament for the Asene-Akroso-Manso Constituency in the Eastern Region, George Kwame Aboagye (OLUWA), who was also listed in the bombshell report on illegal mining by Professor Frimpong-Boateng, in the local dialect, has stated that he will retire from Parliament if the heart surgeon can provide proof for his assertions.

The report was a damning indictment of those involved in the illegal mining industry.

He asserts that he does not participate in any illegal activity, despite the fact that his company acquires gold from miners.

In a report that was handed up to the Chief of Staff in March 2021, the previous Minister of Science, Environment, Technology, and Innovation leveled allegations against various officials in the NPP for engaging in and promoting unlawful mining.

In addition, Professor Frimpong-Boateng asserts that the Member of Parliament for the constituency of Asene-Akroso-Manso gave land to illegal miners in exchange for galamsey.

Mr. Aboagye stated, during an appearance on the evening political discussion show Burning Issues with Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom on Adom FM, that despite the fact that, before to becoming an MP, he worked as a small-scale miner and was involved in the purchasing, selling, and exporting of gold, he did not participate in any unlawful activity.

After addressing Parliament, he ceded control of the company to a few individuals. He was astonished to learn that he was accused of having unpaid mining concessions and of engaging in unlawful mining after he had already given authority.

“I don’t own a mining concession, so I find it surprising that Prof. mentioned my name in his report,” the candidate stated. “I find it surprising that Prof. mentioned my name.” “Before I was elected to Parliament, I was the owner of a company that dealt in gold, which meant that I bought and sold gold.”

The congressman said that some of his relatives and friends held mining concessions, but that they did not engage in galamsey or illegal mining in response to a question about whether or not anyone close to him had mining concessions.

As a result, Mr. Aboagye has requested that investigations be conducted into the report, and he has stated that he will step down from his position if it is discovered that he is participating in unlawful mining.

Steve Manteaw, who is the co-chairman of the Extractive Industries and Transparency Initiatives, has also called for an impartial commission of inquiry to investigate the findings and the claims that Professor Frimpong-Boateng has made in order to determine the veracity of those findings and claims. Steve Manteaw’s call comes after Professor Frimpong-Boateng published his findings and claims that he discovered.

He went on to explain that as the country invested more money in the oil and mineral industries to battle illicit activities in the sector, illegal mining got even worse. He said this because the nation invested money in the oil and mineral sectors.

He asserted that he was not taken aback by the things that Professor Frimpong-Boateng had mentioned.

According to him, the research that they carried out with the help of the World Bank lent credence to each and every one of Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s arguments that he presented.
