Jurors Association On Strike Over Unpaid 13-month Allowance

Spread the love

High court jurors in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday (31 May) declared an indefinite strike over 13 months of unpaid allowances.

The foreman general for the Jurors Association, Albert Ackah, said they took the decision because efforts to get their allowances paid have not yielded any positive result.

The development will affect criminal cases where the services of jurors are crucial.

According to Asaase News’s Jonathan Ofori, court cases at the Kumasi High Court could be adjourned indefinitely as a result of the strike.

Speaking to Asaase News, Ackah expressed worry over their action but said they were pushed to the wall because the situation is affecting their livelihoods.

Ashanti Region can boast of over 30 jurors.

The government is yet to officially comment on the action of the jurors.
