The Developmental Journalists Association (DJA) is urging the electorates of Assin North to be cautious of political talks and instead choose a candidate with a developmental agenda.
In a statement released today 15th June, 2023, the DJA emphasized the need for the people of Assin North to prioritize development in their choice of candidate in the upcoming elections. The association noted that politicians often make grand promises during campaigns, but fail to deliver once they are elected.
“Politicians are known to make all sorts of promises during their campaigns, but many of them fail to deliver on those promises once they are elected,” said the DJA spokesperson. “We urge the people of Assin North to choose a candidate who has a clear developmental agenda and a track record of delivering on their promises.”
The DJA also cautioned against being swayed by empty political rhetoric and urged voters to carefully scrutinize the candidates’ proposals before making their decision.
“Voters should not be deceived by political talks and empty promises. Deadly of all is they should not be taken away by the construction of roads and fixing of street lights just because of the by-election. It is important to carefully examine the candidates’ proposals and track record to ensure that they have a clear plan for the development of Assin North,” the statement concluded.
The DJA’s call for a more developmental approach to politics is timely, as the people of Assin North prepare to go to the polls in the upcoming elections.

DEVELOPMENTAL JOURNALIST ASSOCIATION (DJA)
For Immediate Press Release
14th June, 2023
DO NOT BE DECEIVED BY POLITICAL TALKS; CHOOSE A DEVELOPMENTAL CANDIDATE
The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), and other political parties seems to be in quite a joyous mood since the declaration of the Assin North parliamentary seat won by the opposition National democratic congress (NDC), in the 2020 general elections vacant by parliament on the 30th May, 2023.
The Supreme Court by a unanimous decision ordered Ghana’s Parliament to expunge the name of James Gyakye Quayson from its record as Member of Parliament for the Assin North constituency on May 17.
For this reason, a by-election has been slated for the 27th June, 2023 for electorates within the constituency to elect another member of parliament.
We, Developmental Journalists Association (DJA), a non-partisan group of journalists and media professionals committed to promoting development and journalism in Ghana, are by this release advising the electorates of the Assin North Constituency to be very careful and not be deceived by political talks in choosing a candidate to represent them in parliament because politicians are known to make all sorts of promises during their campaigns, but many of them fail to deliver on those promises once they are elected.
Even though we believe the electorates have their choice, we urge them to choose a candidate who has a clear developmental agenda and a track record of delivering on their promises.
What is the essence of the sweet talks of politicians without portraying them when given power?
If electorates sits to be deceived by political talks in choosing a candidate who would be more interested in the title “Honorable” than aiming at developments, then it would be unprofitable and unwise because development forms a great part in the lives of every individual and individuals makes up the constituency.
It is important to carefully examine the candidates’ proposals and track record to ensure that, they have a clear plan for the development of Assin North or else they would be left with no choice than to stay in the mess until another opportunity avails itself and by then time would be far spent.
So our advice to the electorates of Assin North, enough of the political talks and deceivings, they should vote and choose a developmental candidate for the betterment of the constituency.
Thank you
