Ahenkan FM, a privately owned radio station in Akyem Aboabo in the Eastern region incollabration with Divine Victory Hospital, has organised a free health screening exercise for some responsible fathers.
The free health screening was take in place to mark the day as part of this year’s “Fathers’ Day celebration” which aims at strengthen the Responsible Fathers’ Health System.
Beneficiaries were screened for Malaria, blood pressure, diabetes, Hypertension and Prostate cancer
Speaking to Daily Searchlight Newspaper, Mr Benjamin Acheampong, who is the General Manager of Ahenkan FM said the exercise is to offer all the responsible fathers within their enclaves the opportunity to have their health checked on any bordering health issues and get treatment for minor conditions.
He said it was a vision to ensure that the fathers have access to quality healthcare irrespective of their economic situations.
He therefore called on the Ghanaian citizens to rise up and embrace the role of fatherhood.
The Head of the medical team, Mr. Stephen Asante Ampah underscored the need for regular medical screening and check-ups, saying “This screening is important. It’s not like people here don’t know how to get to the hospital but they do not have money to go. Even if they go and are been given prescription, they cannot buy. That is why there’s a need for such screening, it is prudent to make basic medications available”.
He indicated that, the most prevalence disease recorded in the area at the end of the last year was malaria followed by some respiratory diseases such as hypertension, diabetes among others.
He also advised the men to exercise regularly, watch their diets, attention to health issue and visit the health facility to have their health concerns addressed.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Ahenkan FM and Divine Victory Hospital remembering all the responsible fathers as we celebrate this year’s Fathers’ Day.
They noted that the exercise had helped them to know their health statuses for better treatment.
Father’s Day is a day for honoring father and potential fathers as well as fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society.
It is celebrated annually on the third Sunday in June.
