Ahead of the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, Hon. Alfred Obeng-Boateng sought the mandate of the people to lead the party as it’s Parliamentary Candidate. He took this step with the assurance to maximize the fortunes of the party. He promised to increase the vote margin of H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic, while winning massively as the Parliamentary Candidate.
Though Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai constituency had remain loyal to the New Patriotic Party, the party had not been winning with a convincing margin. This necessitated the commitment by Hon. Alfred Obeng-Boateng to increase the party’s fortunes.There were many doubts with regard to the target by the Parliamentary Candidate. The target was to grab not less than 60% of the valid votes cast for the New Patriotic Party while assisting other Constituencies in Western North Region to amass votes for the President.
With determination, hardwork and team work, Hon. Alfred Obeng-Boateng dedicated his time and resources to ensure that this becomes possible. Despite the various setbacks, which include opposition within his own party, he managed to achieve the set target.
At the end of the polls, H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo won with a convincing margin of 13, 205 votes while winning the Parliamentary race with a historic margin of 17,281 representing (61%) of the valid votes cast. This is the highest votes secured by the party in the history of the Constituency and Western North Region as a whole. In order to ascertain the relevance of Hon. Alfred Obeng-Boateng in this historic victory, we proceed to do a comparative analysis of elections 2016 and 2020.
