Quarry Operators in the Ashanti region have threatened to boycott work due to many interferences and encroachment.
According to the quarry Operators, they may have no option than to lay down their tools due to how people have illegally encroached their site with house buildings. They said most of these residents who are living on the sites illegally, turn up to fight the quarrying company’s for blasting to destruct them.
In an interview with Asona Dehyi Kwateng, vice chairman of the association, Mr. Alexander Owoahene said several attempts to get the government stop these people from the encroachment keep failing. He has therefore give customers just one week ultimatum to get some gravels since the companies are set to go on strike over aforementioned issues.
Meanwhile, some of them expressed bitterly revealed that the encroachers rather turn to threaten their lives which put them at risk. “We live in fear as workers. This is because, most of the encroachers have been threatening our lives. We are therefore pleading with the government to make sure the law works. If we claim not to be worried by these incidents, we are liars. We are telling those who are doing these things to stop”.
Mr. Alexander Ohene who reiterates the company’s commitment to to go on strike said workers cannot risk their lives to death amid these threats if the government was not ready to curb the situation.
