The First Vice Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Atwima Nwabiagya South of the Ashanti Region, Hon. John Kwame Duodu, has donated 4,200 pieces of mathematical sets to education authorities in the Constituency.

The mathematical sets and pens are expected to be distributed to all candidates across the municipality preparing for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The presentation, which is free of charge, forms part of measures to ensure that no candidate lacks the basic learning inputs required for the BECE.

Motivation:

At a brief ceremony at the premises of the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Education Directorate at Nkawie on Monday, July 31, 2022, Hon. John Kwame Duodu, aka Sir John, said the mathematical sets were being donated to boost the candidate’s preparedness.

“You know we are in trying times, and in such situations, not all parents can afford such materials for their wards, especially as they prepare to write such an external exam. And so, upon consultation with the party hierarchy, including the MP, I decided to make this donation to help boost their confidence”, Sir John said.

“I know the teachers have done their bit. Theirs is to revise their notes and shun all forms of examination malpractice to avoid cancellation of their papers”, the Ashanti Regional TESCON patron stressed.

He touted the achievements of the Akufo-Addo administration in the education sector and further reminded the candidates that they would be beneficiaries of the Free Senior High School policy should they come out with flying colours.

According to Sir John, who is also the Ashanti Regional TESCON Patron I am only following the example of my President, H.E. Akufo-Addo, and his vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who have ensured that Education from Basic to SHS is free, and today I am here to donate these math sets and pens so the BECE pupils would know we are solidly behind them to succeed’’.

The NPP executive added that the success of the pupils in the upcoming exams would portend better things for the municipality, hence the decision to support them so that they can do well and get the chance to enter Senior High Schools and further their education.

He asserted that the current administration’s performance over the past seven (7) years has far outperformed that of earlier administrations over the last 14 years in terms of educational outcomes, and he added that change is taking place from school to school.

‘’I sincerely believe the government has done its part to make education, especially tuition, boarding, feeding, and others, free, but we as citizens can contribute to making the pupils and schools feel relieved by providing some basic items they would need’’, Sir John appealed.

Timely intervention

Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Director of Ghana Education Service, Juliana Essel Cudjoe, received the items. She commended the benevolence of Mr. Duodu, adding that the gesture was timely.

While receiving the items from the NPP constituency Vice Chairman, she said the directorate was happy to have this support. The Director encouraged the pupils to see the gesture as motivation for them to do well in the papers they would be writing.

‘’I want to thank Sir John for this gesture and ask others to learn from it and support the educational efforts of this directorate so that together we can give our pupils and students the best of education’’, Madam Essel-Cudjoe stressed.
