3 KNUST Students Receive ‘Special Award’ For Their Heroic In Saving A Suicidal Colleague

On August 2, 203, the Vice Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Prof. Akosua Dickson, recognized and honored three students for their heroic act of saving the life of a suicidal colleague.

The students who received the special award were identified as Theophilus Amo Oduro Aboagye, Kwabena Amoako Marfo, and James Michael Mozley Nsafoa. On July 4, 2023, these three individuals acted swiftly and bravely when they noticed their fellow student in distress at a private hostel facility on campus. The suicidal student was hanging by a balcony on the verge of falling from a storey building.

In a viral video that captured the incident, Theophilus, Kwabena, and James held onto the troubled student and pulled him to safety, preventing a potential tragedy. After the rescue, they took him to a health facility where the school provided him with the necessary psychological support.

In recognition of their courage and timely intervention, the trio was awarded the prestigious ‘Special Award Category’ during the inaugural Vice Chancellor’s Students’ Excellence Awards. The event took place at the Great Hall of KNUST.

In addition to the three heroes, 43 other students were also honored at the ceremony for their exceptional achievements in both academics and sports.
