A senior lecturer at Central University, Dr. Okyere Ankrah, has emphasized that Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central and a potential flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is the ideal candidate to lead the party due to his intolerance for insubordination.

According to Dr. Ankrah, Agyapong’s uncompromising stance toward discipline would contribute to revitalizing and accelerating the nation’s progress by disallowing any form of misconduct in governance.

Dr. Okyere Ankrah believes that Agyapong’s top position on the ballot will attract more votes in his favor. In a conversation with Ohenenana Kwame Amoh on Okay FM’s “Ade Akye Abia,” the senior lecturer stated that Agyapong’s entrance into the NPP’s flagbearer race has shifted the dynamics and that he is the most suitable individual to drive change in the country.

“Initially, Dr. Bawumia and Alan Kyerematen were perceived as the main contenders. However, Kennedy Agyapong’s decision to join the race changed the landscape. The race became more open, leading to the entry of more candidates,” Dr. Ankrah said in Twi on Okay FM.

He further explained, “Considering Kennedy Agyapong’s boldness and approach, I believe that if he becomes president, he will introduce discipline to the nation. The behavior of our citizens suggests that democracy does not align with us due to insubordination and indolence, hindering the nation’s progress. We need someone who will keep us on our toes.”

Dr. Okyere Ankrah also expressed his conviction that Agyapong’s primary ballot position would help him garner significant votes, given his rapport with grassroots supporters and his appeal to neutral Ghanaians.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the 2024 elections would be fiercely contested, and the party that effectively communicates its message to the Ghanaian populace will emerge victorious.

“The 2024 election is expected to be highly competitive. The party that can convincingly present its case to Ghanaians will secure victory,” Dr. Okyere Ankrah concluded.

Background:

The NPP presidential primaries, scheduled for August and November 2023, will involve ten contenders. An initial super delegate conference in August will reduce the number of candidates to five, followed by the main primaries in November 2023 to select the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.

The ten candidates include Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, energy expert Kwadwo Poku, Attorney General and Minister of Justice Joe Ghartey, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former General Secretary of the NPP Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former MP for Offinso North Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.
