The vice chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Joshua Alabi, made a visit to some of the centers where the ongoing limited voter registration exercises are taking place in the Greater Accra Region.

He visited registration centers in Ashaiman, Khoror, Ledzokuku, Odododiodio, Ablekuma West, Ablekuman South, Ablekuma Central, and Okaikoi South as part of the tour that started today.

He also had the chance to familiarize himself and his team with the procedures, issues, and challenges people face when it comes to registration.

Tuesday, September 12, marked the start of the limited voter registration exercise, which is expected to go through Monday, October 2.

Since the majority of voters are complaining about access to registration centers, Prof. Joshua Alabi urged the EC to pay attention to appeals from the general public to bring the registration closer to the voters.

Additionally, he joined his voice to those urging the EC to reconsider its decision to limit the registration process to only its district offices, stating that this is quite concerning.

In a media interview, the NDC’s vice chairman suggested that, in accordance with regulation 22(b) of CI 91 as amended by CI 126, the Commission pay attention to the call for the extension of the exercise to take place in the electoral areas and not only in the district offices of the Commission. If done, this would help to alleviate a number of inconveniences, such as access, transportation, and a lack of funds to travel from far-off places.

Prof. Joshua Alabi, the vice chairman of the NDC, is scheduled to visit other centers.
