Miss Afia Serwaa Nkrante, the women’s commissioner for the National Physician Assistant students Association of Ghana has called for more attention to be given to preventable chronic diseases so as to reduce its prevalence.
She said this at a health screening exercise organized by the LADIES WING of PASAG-NATIONAL in collaboration with B&D MEDICAL LABORATORIES LIMITED.
The health screening exercise was held at Nii Boi Town – HIGH TENSION under the theme “REDUCING THE RISK OF PREVENTABLE CHRONIC DISEASES AMIDST COVID-19 PANDEMIC FOR IMPROVED HEALTH AND WELL-BEING “.
Miss Afia Serwaa Nkrante stated that, attention has shifted from existing chronic diseases such as Hypertension, Diabetes and Hepatitis B etc to the recent COVID-19 causing people to come to the hospital setting daily with complications of these diseases.People with underlying diseases had been the major casualties during covid 19 wave hence the need for us to pay special attention to these chronic diseases-she added.
“Regular check ups , Regular Exercises Consumption of fruits and vegetables , Drinking enough water , avoidance of alcohol and smoking can reduce risk of developing hypertension and diabetes” she told the townspeople present at the health screening exercise.
Honourable Nii Lartey Otu Assemblyman for the Nii Boi Town Electoral area was grateful to the women’s commissioner and B&D MEDICAL LABORATORIES LIMITED for organizing the health screening for his town.
He also urged his people to make their health their priority because the development of the community depends on the wellbeing of the members of the community .
About three hundred community members were screened for hypertension, Diabetes , Hepatitis B and subsequent vaccinations were done for people who tested negative to Hepatitis B.
