The Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana (ADAM-GH) has been given the green light by the Accra Regional Police Command to carry out the planned protest against the Ghana Police Service.

The #OccupyPoliceHeadquarters demonstration’s organizers claim that, “the police selective justice attitude is becoming one too many, and we need to demonstrate against your lackadaisical behavior”.

Azubila Emmanuel Abdul-Salam, Executive Secretary of ADAM-GH, declared in a statement that the demonstration is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

The Police failed to designate safe zones for the protest, according to the Executive Secretary of ADAM-GH, this led to the decision to move the protest from Sunday, October 15, 2023 to Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

This protest will shed light on the following:

The recent unlawful arrest and detention of citizens during the occupyjulorbihouse demonstration.

The continous denial of citizens right to protest or demonstrate.

The right of citizens to demonstrate without the requirement of permission from the Police or any other state institution.

The law requires citizens to only notify the police so that the police in tend can provide them the necessary protection.

The police have failed to fulfil this mandate and as such breached the law.

The eight( 8) innocent Ghanaians who were killed during the 2020 general elections without any action taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The allegation by a Member of Parliament of Assin Central Hon Kennedy Agyapong that the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana H. E Dr Mamuod Bawumia know the killers of the undercover Journalist Ahmed Suale.

“In order to draw attention to the above issues which are ills adversely affecting democratic governance in Ghana, we the undersigned members of ADAM-GH resolve to exercise our fundamental rights through public protest to register our utmost displeasure over what has become an unfamiliar sub-culture of your outfit when it comes to handling of demonstration and dealing with specific crimes that are political in nature”.

The proposed route and activities for that day are as follows:

At Obra Spot Circle, congregate at 7:00 a.m.; the movement will begin at 8:30 a.m. through Sankara interchange to the Ministry of Interior to present a petition to the Minister at Ministries, and then from there to Police Headquarters to submit a petition to the IGP and occupy the police inner court to address the media.
