The Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu and Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has intimated that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has done much better in Government than former President John Mahama, stressing that while Dr Bawumia represents the future of the country, John Mahama belongs to the country’s past.
He noted that as MPs of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), they were ready for a debate on who is more competent with regard to John Mahama and Dr Bawumia.
He made the remarks as contributed to a debate on the 2024 Budget in Parliament today [Wednesday, November 22, 2023].
“The minority front bench, if they want to reduce this debate to the past Mahama and the future Bawumia, they should say so. We are ready for you. Upon all these attacks, you have not voted on this budget. You want to attack Bawumia?
Bring it on! We have your Mahama. Bring it on… Bawumia represents the future. You don’t know that? Bawumia represents the future. What did your Mahama do? We are waiting for all of you. Mr Speaker, I don’t understand. What did you do in your eight years?” He thundered against the minority MPs after they criticised Dr Bawumia for his supposedly poor handling of the economy.
He further argued that the successes chalked by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration with respect to the economy, notwithstanding the challenges, greatly outweigh those achieved by the Government of John Mahama.
“All institutions of the state are getting their support to run their departments and agencies…This is a caring government that has walked the talk,” he noted.
Dr Bawumia and John Mahama, leaders of Ghana’s dominant political parties, have already launched spirited campaigns, outlining their visions for the country and chiding each other regularly.
The NPP are confident of a win for Dr Bawumia in the 2024 Presidential Election even though the Economic Intelligence Unit has predicted a win for John Mahama.
