Akim Oda Constituency in the Eastern Region will be the place to watch as the former Nabco Coordinator, Mr. Dennis Obeng Agyei, has officially declared his intention to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s forthcoming parliamentary primary.
The popular youth activist in Akyem Oda affectionately called “DENSA”, is an experienced politician who has risen through the ranks of leadership.
The current Oda Nkwanta Assembly member is optimistic to oust the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Alexander Akwasi Acquah.
He reached the decision after a prolonged period of introspection and extensive consultations with stakeholders, constituents, party members, and sympathizers.
In an engagement with journalists on Friday, November 24th, 2023, he stated that his track record within the party and as an assembly member also puts him far ahead of his competitors as the best candidate for the position.”Drawing from my experience as the Assembly Member for Oda Nkwanta Electoral Area from 2015 to 2023, I’ve actively contributed to committees, serving in pivotal roles. This experience positions me to lead with a readiness of mind, ensuring impactful results for our constituency.”
According to him, his philanthropic works and connection with the grassroots would be enough grounds to influence electorates to vote for him in the parliamentary elections in December 2024.
DENSA believes that the party’s fortunes will shine on him when given the chance to lead the constituency in the 2024 general election. He said his vision of livelihood empowerment, among others, resonates so well with delegates who have already endorsed his candidacy.
“As a native of Akyem Oda, I’ve closely observed the patterns of growth within our constituency. My experiences, particularly in representing the voice of our constituents, have fueled my decision to seek a more impactful role. I don’t view this as a theoretical assumption but a practical guide for the future”, he stated.
Mr. Dennis Obeng Agyei’s vision to become a Member of Parliament is centered on four thematic areas: education, infrastructure, health, and most importantly, youth empowerment. Ahead of the approaching NPP parliamentary primaries, he also took use of the occasion to officially launch his campaign.
Visions For The Youth
Mr. Dennis Obeng Agyei, the NPP parliamentary candidate hopeful for the Akim Oda constituency, stated that his intention to vie for the position was driven by his desire to help the youth of the party and the youth of the constituency at large.
He stressed that the party’s ambition of securing total victory in the 2024 general elections depended heavily on the youth and pledged to “work closely” with the party’s youth in the constituency to ensure the needed results are achieved.
He would look to create a platform and atmosphere that provided equal opportunity for the youth of the party in order to empower them as well as create more significant resources for the party’s development.
According to him, in our political landscape, the youth have often found themselves on the fringes of decision-making, and it’s time to reshape this narrative.
He said, “Injecting fresh ideas and perspectives is crucial for our community’s growth, and I believe my inclusion as a young candidate reflects a commitment to this philosophy. A society thrives when all its segments are included. The disenfranchisement of young people from political processes erodes the very essence of democracy. My goal is to bridge this gap, ensuring that the youth have a meaningful voice in shaping our collective future.”
“about 70% of our delegates and party members are youth and they need more than just empowerment. You need to resource them very well so that they can go out there to work and create more opportunities,” he noted.
Visions For The Party
In addition, Mr. Dennis pledged to construct an opulent office building for the party should he be selected to lead the party in the 2024 election, and he has already begun securing land for the project.
He stated that the Akim Oda constituency, an NPP stronghold, needed a suitable party office to enable seamless operations. In the Eastern vicinity, he pledged to transform the face of the Akim Oda NPP.
In his capacity as a devoted party member, he said that he has dedicated himself to fostering harmony within the New Patriotic Party in the Akyem Oda constituency since he noticed that the party in the vicinity lacks unity.
For the benefit of the party and the constituents in general, he has urged party delegates in the district to band together and support him in the approaching primaries.
Reactions
Additionally, some NPP members and supporters who attended the campaign’s inaugural event stated that Mr. Dennis Obeng Agyei is an excellent leader and a very kind and humble guy, and that if given the opportunity to serve as the MP, he will grow the constituency.
According to others, he has already done enough as an Assembly member and still has room to grow the constituency as well.
The Daily Searchlight Newspaper quoted them as saying, “Joy is coming to Akim Oda because DENSA is our new hope.”
