Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has lashed out at referee Andy Madley’s decision to send Ghana forward Jordan Ayew off in a game between Palace and Liverpool.
The English Premier League encounter played out at the Selhurst Park ended in a 2-1 loss for Palace and had Ayew sent off in the 75th minute with Liverpool trailing 0-1. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
Ayew was booked for the second time in the game after making a challenge on Harvey Elliot leading to his dismissal. Liverpool got the equalizer through Mohammed Salah’s deflected shot in the 76th minute and went on to score the win.
Earlier in the game, Ayew got his first booking after being deemed to have prevented a Liverpool free kick from being effected by Virgil Van Dijk.
However, the decision to book Jordan Ayew for both incidents didn’t exactly thrilled the 76 year old Hodgson who said,
] “Van Dijk took the opportunity to get him the first yellow card by kicking the ball against him [while trying to take a quick free‑kick]. The second yellow I thought was a good challenge and even if it was deemed a foul it wasn’t a yellow card offence.”
Jordan Ayew is one of Crystal Palace’s top performers and has three assists and a goal in 16 league appearances this season.
