The Editor of Informer newspaper, Andy Kankam, on Thursday received fresh death threats while on The Asaase Breakfast Show for “overly criticising” the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He told Asaaseradio.com that he received an intelligence indicating that some people have been “assigned to assassinate” him on the basis that he is “too critical of the opposition NDC.”
The editor who also doubles as a member of the NDC said prior to the latest threat, he had received about four others within a spate of a month.
“To start with I am a bonafide member of the NDC but that doesn’t mean that when things are not going on well, I should just keep mute, and also when this government is doing something that I think should inure to the benefit of the generality of Ghanaians, we must give praise where it is due, inasmuch as we continue to criticise them,” Kankam said.
He added: “So I have been receiving death threats. I picked up intel, just a while ago as I was on the ABS show I picked an intel, somebody called me from a very credible agency of state that this is what they have picked up and that some people have been assigned to basically assassinate me or whatever on the basis that we are too critical of the NDC.”
However, Kankam said he remains unfazed by the threats and will continue to professionally execute his work.
Meanwhile, Allotey Jacobs, who has been a staunched member of the NDC until he was expelled two weeks ago, has also publicly stated that his life is under threat.
“Just about an hour ago, I heard from a reliable source the NDC has brought attackers to come and kill me. They have sent assassins after Andy Kankam and I. So as I am speaking now, I am speaking from a coded location,” Jacobs said.
