The ancient town of Akyem Oda on Monday, December 25, 2023, came to a standstill when the New Patriotic Party (NPP)  Member of Parliament for the Akyem Oda constituency in the Eastern Region, Alexander Akwasi Acquah,  filed his nomination to seek re-election.
Amidst brass band, Mr. Alexander Akwasi Acquah was accompanied to the party office by over five hundred (500) party supporters and delegates adorned in his campaign T-shirts and banners who converged at the MP’s constituency office in Akyem Oda.
It is his second move towards Parliament since 2020.
The nomination form was received by the constituency Chairman of the Election Committee, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, who is also the Chairman of the Council of Elders in the constituency, and the constituency Chairman, Mr. Kojo Ampabeng, on behalf of members of the elections committee.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Alexander Akwasi Acquah took advantage of the moment to convey his gratitude to the party leadership and delegates for their steadfast support over the years and and expressing optimism about retaining the seat.
In his speech, he acknowledged a polling station executive who volunteered to buy his forms after securing him a job.
Reflecting on his accomplishments, Alexander Akwasi Acquah highlighted achievements in education, infrastructure, welfare, and sports, while emphasizing his commitment to the total well-being of Akyem Oda constituency residents.
“It is evident to all that I have fulfilled many of my campaign pledges, and since I became your MP for the first time, progress has been made in every sector”, he stated.
He asserts that in advance of the general elections in 2024, it will be in the constituency’s and the party’s best interests to re-elect him as a parliamentary candidate.
He disclosed that his second round will bring in more development compared the tremendous achievement chalked since 2021.
He pledges to garner 90% of the votes in the upcoming general elections for both the presidency and legislature if the delegates endorse him as their parliamentary candidate.
“As everyone knows, as your parliamentary candidate in the 2020 general elections, I garnered the highest number of votes (almost 80%) in the Eastern region in both the parliamentary and presidential votes. In terms of breaking the eight agendas, my goal is to improve it to 90% in the upcoming 2024 general general election”, he said.
He also begs the NPP delegates to give him a thumbs-up, assuring them they won’t be let down.
He urged constituents to focus on the bigger picture, emphasizing that the election is about the community’s progress, not individual interests.
Hon. Nana Yaw Osafo Marfo received appreciation from Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah for his unwavering support of the constituency.
As far as he is concerned, the special advisor has never abandoned the constituency.

Meanwhile; Hon. Yaw Osarfo Marfo, a senior advisor to the president and the Chairperson of the constituency election committee, endorses Hon. Alexander Akwasi Aquach, the incumbent Member of Parliament, in his bid.

In order to keep track of the number of votes they obtained in the 2020 election, he counseled the party members to back the MP.

The NPP holds parliamentary primaries in constituencies with sitting MPs on January 27, 2024, ahead of the December 2024 elections.

The Akyem Oda Constituency is one of the safest seats for the NPP in view of previous election results since 1996.

Political watchers have described the contest between Hon. Alexander Akwasi Aquach and the former Nabco Coordinator for Birim Central, Mr Dennis Obeng Agyei as keen.
