It was certainly a proud moment on Thursday morning for the many Ghanaians who went to the Akwaaba Village to support Afua Asantewaa’s attempt to break the Guinness World Record of the longest singing marathon by an individual, sing-a-thon.
The cheers and praises showered on Afua for her tenacity and willpower was quite evident in their moods when she hit the 105 hours on Thursday at 9 a.m after four days of singing had entered the fifth day.
At 9:00 am, Afua Asantewaa hit 105 hours, which is the current record for the longest sing-a-thon held by India’s Sunil Waghmare in 2012.
Afua is aiming to sing for more than 117 hours to break Waghmare’s record.
At midnight entering the fifth day, and oh, Afua, just knew the right song to complement the moods of patrons when she performed Fameye’s popular song, Praise.
Her introduction of “I will not have prospered should I have listened to people”, said in Twi, which is part of the lyrics of the song further boosted the ecstatic mood of the crowd with chants of her name echoing the place.
