The Electoral Commission has taken action by interdicting five officers involved in supervising the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries in Yendi on Saturday, January 27.
Last week’s parliamentary elections in Yendi were marked by controversy, particularly allegations against an Electoral Commission official accused of tampering with the ballots of one of the candidates.
Reports say the interdiction of these officers, is a response from the Electoral Commission to concerns raised during the Yendi parliamentary elections.
Violence erupted in the Yendi constituency during the ballot counting process. The poll featured the incumbent Yendi MP, Farouk Aliu Mahama, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah.
Hajia Abibata Mahama has alleged that an official of the Electoral Commission (EC) attempted to pocket some of her ballots.
She has petitioned the party’s leadership, claiming that some party officers conspired with the incumbent MP to rig the elections, thus declaring the MP as the primaries winner.
