Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has encouraged the youth in his Kingdom to preserve their strength and channel them into acts that will aid the betterment and development of Asanteman by quitting drug abuse.

According to him, the steps of Asantes’ predecessors who fought to ensure Asante lives on must be emulated and followed by the current generation.

“Stop drugs and use your strength for a better course. That was not how Asanteman was built. Our predecessors did it and we can do it too.”

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom reckons that giving up their strength in drug abuse will in no way contribute to building the Kingdom, which endures due to the toil and blood of forefathers.

“Asante is alive. 150 years ago, the whites destroyed this city but the Golden Stool remained. All kinds of guns came here, but Golden Stool remained untouched. So far as the Golden Stool remains, no one can touch Asanteman. It is the soul of Asanteman and Nananom used their blood to protect it.

“Strive to retain Asanteman just as Nananom did. Young men and women must emulate our predecessors.”

Otumfuo made the submission at the Kuntunkuni Durbar at the Manhyia Palace on February 8, 2024. The durbar was held to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Sagrenti War of 1874, which saw the destruction of Kumasi and the looting of treasures from the Palace of Asanthene Kofi karikari.

At the event, the Fowler Museum officially presented to Otumfuo seven of the artefacts that found their way to the United States of America (USA) from the United Kingdom where they were first taken.

Among the items was a royal stool belonging to Asantehene Kofi Karikari, the 10th Asantehene.
