Following his exclusion from the campaign team and manifesto committee of NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former deputy general secretary of the party Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen on February 22, 2024, mentioned forming his political party and running for president on an independent ticket in the December polls.

However, he was named co-chair of the Local Government on the Manifesto Committee after Attorney Nana Obiri Boahen voiced his dissatisfaction with the NPP and Dr. Bawumia for ignoring him with regard to appointments following nearly eight years in administration.

However, he has since changed his mind about leaving the NPP, saying that Dr. Bawumia called him following the article that Time FM’s Nana Owusu Achiaw from Kumasi wrote went viral.

During an interview, Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen stated that he had a conversation with the Vice President and found his statement to be touching.

“Bawumia called me and he asked me you have brought your train and I am the passenger so why are you leaving me behind.”

He stated that he was moved to tears by the meaningful remarks made by two people, including his biological mother, on his decision to leave the NPP and was compelled to reevaluate his choice.
