The government of Ghana has declared Thursday, 11th April, 2024, as a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Fitr.

A press release issued by the Ministry of Interior on Wednesday, April 3, said.

It has thus urged for it to be observed throughout the country.

“The general public is hereby informed that Thursday, 11th April, 2024 which marks Eidul-Fitr, is a statutory public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country”.

Muslims believe the Holy Quran was revealed in Ramadan and throughout the month, they fast and engage in other rituals to get closer to Allah.

“Eid al-Fitr” from Arabic sums up the holiday as it means “festival of breaking the fast.” Eid al-Fitr is celebrated during the first three days of Shawwal, which is the tenth month in the Muslim (lunar) calendar.

The day marks the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting.
