Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North district was engulfed in chaos today as the highly anticipated limited voter registration exercise began amidst clashes between members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Tensions escalated when NDC members accused an Electoral Commission (EC) official of verbal insults while allegedly not finding her name on the Ec officials list. Additionally, there were allegations that NPP executives were preventing newly eligible senior high school students from leaving to register at their respective homes, causing further unrest.
The situation escalated into physical altercations, leading to a significant disturbance at the registration center.
In response to the events, NDC’s communication officer, Hon. Francis Akakpo, voiced concerns over the incident and its impact on the registration process.
The clash underscores the challenges facing the voter registration exercise and raises questions about the process’s fairness and efficiency in the Ahafo Ano North district.
