The outstanding trainee allowances for 2024 will be released this Thursday, May 16, 2024, for payment to nursing and teacher trainees nationwide, according to a statement made by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president and NPP’s flagbearer.

The allowances for both teacher and nursing trainees, which the Akufo-Addo government restored after their cancellation by the previous Mahama administration, have been delayed in recent months.

However, during a significant engagement with the youth in Nalerigu, in the North East Region, which was attended by numerous nursing and teacher trainees, Dr. Bawumia announced the good news to rapturous cheers.

“On the nursing training allowance, we have been able to agree on what to do come this Thursday,” Dr. Bawumia said, as the crowd cheered.

“The Minister of Finance has sent me a message which says that on Thursday, the Controller and Accountant General is going to transfer 177 million Ghana Cedis to the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Health will then distribute it to the nursing trainees,” he stated.

“So I believe that Insha Allah, by next week, all of you should be receiving the nursing trainee allowances, and they will be in your accounts.”

The NPP Flagbearer’s announcement energized his interaction with the youth, as the nurses among them openly jubilated, chanting Dr. Bawumia’s name in appreciation.

Dr. Bawumia’s announcement is expected to be met with similar excitement on various campuses across the country, as the nursing training allowance is a crucial stipend for many trainees.

Following the announcement, Dr. Bawumia reminded the youth and the trainees that when it comes to a government that cares for nursing and teacher trainees, as well as the youth, it is the NPP, as demonstrated by the party’s pro-poor policies, not Mahama and the NDC.

“The NPP has clearly demonstrated that it is the party that cares for the youth and has you at heart, through many of our policies that support you,” he said.

“My opponent in December and his party, the NDC, cancelled the nursing and teacher trainee allowances. But we came in and restored them. We are committed to them, and I am very committed to them; that is why I have been following up on it,” he added.
