The former Deputy Minister for Finance and member of parliament for the Ashanti Region, John Kumah, was to be buried on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

Hundreds of well-known Ghanaians journeyed from all over the nation to Ejisu to pay their final respects to him.

Among the high-profile personalities at the funeral of the late MP were leading figures of the ruling New Patriotic Party, including President Akufo Addo, the flagbearer of the party, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (aka Chairman Wontumi), along with other national executives of the party.

Members of Parliament from both sides of the house, as well as present and former ministers of state, including former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and Chieftaincy Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng, attended the funeral.

Also present at the funeral were the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare and the Queen-mother of Ejisu, Yaa Asantewaa II.

Ghanaian business moguls Osei Kwame Despite and Dr Ernest Ofori Sampong and other renowned business community members also attended the final funeral rites of the former minister.

Ghana was hit by the news of the death of one of its deputy ministers of finance, John Kumah, on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

John Kumah died at the age of 45 after succumbing to an illness he had been struggling with for several months.

John Kumah was appointed Deputy Minister for Finance by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in January 2021. He was the Member of Parliament for Ejisu, in the Ashanti Region, and had been in parliament since 2021.

He was regarded as one of the rising stars in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and was touted by some factions in the party as a potential running mate to the flagbearer of the party, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He won the party’s parliamentary primaries in his constituency overwhelmingly to represent it in the upcoming December 7, 2024, general elections.

He was an entrepreneur, a preacher and a lawyer. Kumah served as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) before he entered parliament in 2020.

He is survived by his wife, Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah, and six children.
