Two chiefs in Ghana are celebrating the silver jubilee of their installation, but only one is making news headlines across the country: Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The other cheif, who is moderately celebrating the 25th anniversary of his kingship, is the Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the overlord of the Akyem Abuakwa State, also known as Okyeman.

Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin is the 35th King of Okyeman and was installed on October 4, 1992.

The Akyem Abuakwa State comprises 12 of the 18 Akyem districts in the Eastern Region, namely: Abuakwa North, Abuakwa South, Fanteakwa North, Fanteakwa South, Atiwa West, Atiwa East, Suhum, Ayensuano, Upper West Akyem, Lower West Akyem, Denkyembour, and Kwaebibirem. Akyem Abuakwa also includes parts of the remaining six Akyem districts.

The traditional capital of Okyeman is Kyebi.

History has it that the occupants of the Ofori Panin stool, members of the Asona clan dynasty, were started by the famous warrior Apeanin Kwaframoa Woyiawonyi, one of the foremost traditional rulers in Ghana, at Adanse Akrokyere Kokobeante.

Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin took over from Osagyefuo Kuntunkununku II, who ruled Okyeman from 1976 to 1999. Before Kuntunkununku II was Osagyefuo Ofori Atta III (1973-1976), who took over from Osagyefuo Ofori Atta II (1943-1973).

Ofori Atta III took over from Osagyefuo Ofori Atta I, the overlord of Okyeman from 1912 to 1943.
