The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has taken proactive measures to address the alarming surge in COVID-19 cases within the region.

The 11th National COVID Vaccination Days (NaCVaDs) will commence and it’s dubbed, “Protect Yourself, Protect Your Family, Get Vaccinated Against Covid-19 Now!” with the aim of protecting individuals, families, and communities from the devastating effects of the virus.

From the 3rd to the 7th of July 2024, the dedicated vaccination teams will be visiting various locations, including households, markets, schools, places of worship, and health facilities, to administer vaccines to approximately 88,130 people.

With the region experiencing the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases in Ghana, the importance of achieving herd immunity has become increasingly critical.

During a short briefing, Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, the Ashanti Regional Health Director, charged Ghanaians who are 18 years and above and are yet to get vaccinated or take booster shot to take advantage of the opportunity to get vaccinated.

“Vaccination will be given to all eligible persons 18 years and above.

“Vaccination is taking place in health centers and a number of vaccination posts, schools, markets, churches, bus stations and your neighborhood,” he said.

Dr. Tenkorang then emphasized on the importance of this vaccination as he said that it’s the most effective tool available to curb the spread of COVID-19 and protect individuals from severe illness, hospitalization, and death.

“The vaccines are safe, effective and free. It reduces COVID-19 disease, its severity, and prevent hospitalization and death.

“If you feel anything unusual after the vaccination, report to the nearest health facility,” he added.

He then urged people to continue to observe the various protocols sine the virus is still around.

“Continue to observe the COVID-19 prevention protocols such as frequently washing your hands with soap under running water and using alcohol-based hand sanitizer,” he ended.

As at 1st July, 2024, total doses administered is 4,975,796 with 1,960,955 (53.4%) persons fully vaccinated and 2,654,554 (72.4%) persons who have taken at least one dose.

The vaccination teams will visit various locations frequented by the public, such as markets, lorry stations, schools, churches, mosques, and communities.

By bringing the vaccines to the doorstep of residents, the health authorities aim to alleviate any logistical barriers and make the process more convenient.

The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate is taking decisive action to combat the rising number of COVID-19 cases by launching the 11th National COVID Vaccination Days.

The regional health directorate is determined to overcome the challenges posed by vaccination hesitancy and achieve herd immunity.

By protecting ourselves, we protect our families, communities, and ultimately contribute to the nation’s efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Together, let us prioritize public health and join hands in this critical endeavor to emerge stronger from the grips of the pandemic.
