The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has imposed a one-month suspension on its Central Regional Chairman, Prof Richard Kofi Asiedu, and Assin Central Constituency Secretary, Sadique Broni Yeboah, citing anti-party conduct.
This decision was reached following a meeting involving the party’s national executives, the Functional Executive Committee (FEC), and Assin Central executives.
The meeting centred on the withdrawal of Nurein Shiabu Migyimah from his position as the party’s Assin Central parliamentary candidate (PC) due to allegations of immoral acts and anti-party activities.
Migyimah was suspended after investigations and deliberations by the NDC’s Central Regional Functional Executive Committee in response to the complaints filed against him.
Migyimah was accused of impregnating the wife of the party’s Assin Central General Secretary.
But after a meeting on Tuesday at the party headquarters in Accra, the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Kwetey in a statement noted that “the letter originating from the Secretariat of the Central Region NDC purporting to withdraw the candidacy of the said Assin Central candidate, Comrade Migyimah and further suspending his membership of the party, is null and void, and stands withdrawn.
“Accordingly, Comrade Migyimah remains the NDC Parliamentary Candidate of Assin Central for the upcoming general elections in December, 2024.”
On Friday, June 28, the Regional FEC issued a letter to the Assin Central chairman of the NDC, indicating that Migyimah is to be suspended for six months while the Regional Disciplinary Committee adjudicates the matter.
The NDC leadership subsequently summoned the Central Regional Chairman regarding the letter that withdrew Migyimah’s candidature, citing concerns that it violated due process.
