Give A Listening Ear To Rotation Nurses – NAHSAG Tells MoH

The National Executive Officers (NEO) of the National Health Students Association of Ghana (NAHSAG), an association that represents all health students and fresh graduates in the country, has released a press statement in support of the press conference organized by the Rotation Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana.

In their release, NAHSAG called on the Ministry of Health (MoH) to respond with urgency to the petition submitted by the Rotation Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana to the Ministry of Health.

NAHSAG emphasized the critical roles played by interns and rotation nurses, particularly in boosting staff numbers at various hospitals across the country. The association finds it disturbing that the employer has failed to pay its members, who play a vital role in the health sector, for over 10 months during their rotation/internship. This is despite the fact that interns and rotation staff are expected to perform a significant amount of work, often with minimal supervision.

The press release seeks to call on the Ministry of Health to fulfill their portion of the shared responsibilities between interns/rotation staff and the Ministry.

NAHSAG stressed that it is the responsibility of the Ministry to ensure that interns and rotation staff are adequately supported and compensated for their work.

Furthermore, NAHSAG highlighted the importance of interns and rotation staff in the healthcare system, pointing out that they are the future healthcare professionals who will take over the reins in the coming years. The association emphasized that it is essential to invest in their training and well-being to ensure that they are equipped to provide quality healthcare services to the population.

The association has urged the Ministry of Health to take immediate action to address the concerns raised by the Rotation Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana and ensure that interns and rotation staff receive the support and compensation they deserve.
