The Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates and members of the party to actively campaign and secure victories in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.

He emphasised that the current Akufo-Addo administration faced challenges in Parliament due to the nearly equal numbers of seats, which made governance difficult. Afenyo-Markin insisted that this situation must not be repeated under a Bawumia presidency.

“Don’t give up, let us work together… To our parliamentarians, I say Kudos to all of you. I thank you for your support through your steadfastness and resilience although we have a very tight parliament.

“We have a majority of one…But we have a few months ahead of us. I want to encourage you to please make yourself available to support the course of government. Let’s finish hard. There is a price awaiting us.”

“To all parliamentary candidates let me plead with you enough of the reconciliation. Move on, fight hard, campaign day and night, go to every household. We don’t have time to settle disputes.

“Fight for this party the way you fight to save a sister, fight for this party the way you save a mother, fight for this party we need our numbers in parliament,” he stated.

He also expressed confidence in Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate to the NPP flagbearer, highlighting his potential to help transform Ghana despite attempts by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to paint him as arrogant.

Afenyo-Markin recounted that the NDC did the same to President Akufo-Addo when he was a candidate but that did not work.

“We know you tagged Akufo-Addo also as arrogance but it didn’t work He is ready to transform Ghana with arrogance,” he said during the launch of the NPP manifesto on Sunday, August 18.
