Asene Akroso Manso MP In Trouble As Angry Youth Chase Him Over Failed Campaign Promise

Scores of youth in Akyem Asene in the Asene Akroso Manso Constituency of the Eastern Region are seething with anger over what they described as failed and empty promises by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon. George Kwame Aboagye.
According to the aggrieved youth, the MP has not delivered on the commitments he made to the chiefs and people of Akyem Asene when he was elected.

Mr Kwame Nyame, the convener of the Concerned Youth of Akyem Asene, expressed particular frustration over the MP’s unfulfilled promise to construct an astroturf for the community.

This promise was made after the MP persuaded the elders to allow a striving football pitch to be used for the construction of a clinic.

Speaking on the Ghana Yensom morning show co-hosted by Otafrigya Kaayire Kwesi Appea-Apreku and Odehyeeban Kofi Essuman on Accra 100.5 FM on Thursday, August 22, 2024, Mr. Nyame explained that the youth agreed to the clinic’s construction on the football field because the MP had pledged to build an astroturf at Akyem Asene L.A. Primary School. This facility was intended to help unearth football talents in the area.

However, four years later, the site earmarked for the astroturf remains untouched, with no contractors in sight.

In response, the youth leaders have decided to stage a demonstration to press for the construction of the promised ultra-modern football pitch and threatened to vote against the MP if he fails to kick start the construction before the December 7, polls.

To express their displeasure with their Member of Parliament, George Kwame Aboagye, for not keeping his word during the previous four years, the youth have planned a protest on September 23, 2024.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Asene Manso Akroso, Mr. Alex Incoom, commented on the situation, stating that the project has already been awarded to a contractor with sponsorship from Ghana Gas Company Limited.

He assured that work would commence on the site by the second week of September.

Mr. Nkum explained that the project had been delayed because the MP was not satisfied with the model proposed by the Middle Belt Development Authority under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).

He assured the community that the Ghana Gas project would be a state-of-the-art facility with all modern ancillary amenities.
