The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for the Afigya Sekyere East constituency in the Ashanti Region Hon.Evans Amoh Twumasi, has expressed grave worry over the exponential increase in the rate of youth unemployment faced in sekyere East in recent times.
According to the Parliamentary candidate, the escalating youth unemployment in the area is nothing to be desired as citizens and lawmakers, thereby calling for an immediate solution to the challenge.
As a concerned citizen and the parliamentary candidate of the sekyere east constituency, he bemoaned that the current levels of joblessness and homelessness among the youth in the area could incur significant and potentially dangerous repercussions.
Speaking to the media at a Kid’s program “dubbed” Young Public Speakers Kid’s Parliament Hon. Evans Amoh Twumasi expressed the need for an immediate and conclusive action.
He said, “The joblessness, of the youth cannot be taken lightly. The next NDC government will act together to prevent a journey to calamity or to a journey of no return.”
He added that, drastic measures must be taken by the government and the various stakeholders in solving the canker of unemployment.
Hon. Twumasi has however outlined a number of interventions to tackle the youth employment which will enhance access to quality education and empower Young Ghanaians for a prosperous future.
Meanwhile the Chief Executive officer of Young Public Speakers Kid’s Parliament Madam Rosemary Osei Kuffuor, indicated there was an urgent need to address the plethora of challenges facing Ghanaian youth including rampant unemployment.
According to her, the Ghana Statistical Service has revealed that, 25 per cent of young people aged 15–35 were not in employment, education or training across the three quarters of 2022.
This amounts to 2.5 million people or one out of every four young people.
