The market women at Kejetia, central market, and railways in Kumasi of Ashanti Region have admitted to hiking food stuffs prices on the market
According to them, the current high food prices cannot be attributed to the government, but the traders and middlemen are taking advantage of the situation.
Josephine Sagoe a, reporter visiting these marketplaces spoke to Madam Afriyie, who sells Yam, and laid emphasis that the price of Yam has shot up but the government has no hand in it.
“Even though this year’s season for yam farmers was not favorable, which yielded a low supply of yams, but the middlemen and traders took advantage of the situation,” she said.
Some vegetable sellers said this year’s rainy season had a negative effect on vegetables.
They said the galamsey activities, which are destroying our farmlands, have lands has a negative impact on farming activities, leading to food scarcity and inflation.
“The government should put measures in place to curb the situation, which will help the price of foodstuffs in the market.
