Dr. Evans Nunoo, an economics lecturer, has urged the government to declare a state of emergency in the fight against galamsey.

In the words of Dr. Evans Nunoo, the president must declare a state of emergency in order to combat the threat.

He continued by saying that, despite the fact that declaring a state of emergency to combat galamsay will hurt the economy, it is the right course of action.

He claims that the galamsey has seriously harmed the environment, contaminating waterways, ruining crops, and destroying farmland.

Dr. Evans additionally advocated a nonpartisan strategy to eliminate the threat.

Dr. Evans said the current government may not have the political will to declare a state of emergency  because of the upcoming general elections, citing the trouble it brought them in the 2020 elections

He claims that President Akufo-Addo’s government’s audacious decision to put an end to unlawful mining was what caused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to lose a significant number of parliamentary seats.

Thus, he advocated for a bipartisan strategy because he thought it would prevent the conflict from being politicized.
