NCCE Organises Inter-Party Dialogue To Foster Peaceful Election In Akyem Oda

In anticipation of the forthcoming general elections, the Birim Central Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Eastern Region hosted a one-day Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) meeting on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.

The aim of the gathering, which was attended by representatives from the Electoral Commission, Ghana Union Movement, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and other interested parties, was to ensure peace and tolerance before, during, and after the December 7 polls in the Akim Oda Constituency.

The Municipal Chief Executive and the Municipal Coordinating Director of the Birim Central Municipal Assembly, together with some traditional leaders, Nana Otchere Boama I and Obrimpong Gyamfi Safro-Kyereh, graced the meeting as well.

 

Other notable figures at the meeting included security agencies, the clergy, persons with disabilities, youth and women’s groups, the media, farmers’ cooperatives, CSOs, and other marginalized groups.

 

Speakers of the Dialogue were the Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr Nunu Kofi Annan, and D/C Inspector Peter Muglo of the Ghana Police Service.

 

 

 

Mad. Rejoice Biscoff, Municipal Director NCCE, welcomed everyone and explained the reason for the meeting.

She echoed the theme, “Together We Can Build Ghana, So, Let’s GET Involved”.

Speaking to the media, Rejoice Biscoff, the Municipal Director of NCCE, stated that the meeting’s goal was to unite all parties involved and provide them with insights into fostering political tolerance and upholding peace before, during, and following the elections.

She advised politicians to desist from sharing falsehoods as it created fear and panic in society.

Mad. Rejoice Biscoff indicated that attendance was encouraging and the meeting proceeded well.

Peace messages were delivered by the prominent citizens of the municipal in anticipation of the upcoming general elections.

 

Obrempong Gyamfi Safro-Kyere II, the Krontihene for Kotoku Traditional Area, applauded the NCCE in Birim Central Municipal for their public education campaign aimed at promoting peaceful elections

He urged the political parties to refrain from encouraging youths to engage in acts of violence.

 

The chairman of the occasion, Rev. Raymond Abeka, the Chairman for West Akyem Presbytery, advised political parties to be polite in their utterances.

In addition to cautioning against using violence during this election, he also reminded the populace that life goes on after elections.

The Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr Nunu Kofi Annan, also took the participants through the DOs and DON’Ts of the electoral process.

 

D/C Inspect. Peter Muglo, representing the Police Commander, addressed security issues related to the 2024 general elections. Additionally, he dealt with electoral violence and the Public Order Act, respectively.

 

In conclusion, participants pledged to carry the message of peace to the larger community.
