The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) says it has taken note of the intended strike action by the Divisional Executive Council (DEC) of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Division of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC).

The union has announced it will effective, Wednesday, September 18, 2024, commence an indefinite strike action over their delayed allowances.

The move comes after what the union have described as “unnecessary delay tactics” by FWSC in negotiations concerning the allowances.

According to the union, the Commission has failed to continue discussions after they submitted proposals as far back as May 2023.

However, FWSC in a statement has said the move is regrettable, considering that negotiations are still ongoing.

The Commission has explained at a meeting on September 4, 2024, to continue negotiations, the union rejected the government team’s counterproposals and maintained their initial position on the allowances.

“The Commission wishes to state that it has been engaging with the NCCE Division of PSWU in good faith as part of the negotiation process to conclude the negotiation on the Conditions of Service for NCCE staff.

“The FWSC has not employed any “delay tactics” as described by the union but has been engaging the union since the rules of engagement were signed on July 23, 2024,” the statement noted.

Emphasising its commitment to the negotiations, FWSC has urged the workers union to reconsider its decision to embark on strike action.
